Wataru Iwano (岩野 渉 Iwano Wataru) is a 4th year college student and the team leader of the Airsoft survival game.

Personality[]
As the team leader, Iwano possess an impressive leadership skills, as he's the one that plans the defence system to counter the killing of the supposed Ghost Soldier. Iwano is a competitive yet has concern as he hopes that the Yonemura's team doesn't get into any trouble and doesn't want Kindaichi and his friends to be hurt while they're trying to eliminate each other.
It's later revealed that he, alongside the other survival game enthusiasts are responsible for the burning of the Kurosaka village. Although Tetsunori Hagimoto already made sure that the fire was already put down and Yonemura adds that their fire is located quite far from the village. By the end of the case, he's mentioned to be quite shocked and will be put under pressure from the authorities until he confess everything.

Shohei Nanba[]
In his own team, Nanba is arguably the closest to Iwano. He reprimand him when Nanba jokingly "shot" his gun to Kindaichi.
Tetsunori Hagimoto[]
Iwano defends him when Hagimoto is blamed by Nanba for always causing wildfire.
Tatsuyuki Hiyama[]
Before the reveal, Iwano along with the others see Hiyama as a rather weird and loner person. It is implied that Hiyama's uncooperativeness is the reason that his team always loose.
After Kindaichi reveals Hiyama as the killer, Iwano begins to feel nervous around him up until he tries to stab him.
Yonemura[]
It is implied that Yonemura is the closest on the opposition team. Yonemura also agrees with Iwano fake excuse about the wildfire is ignited from someone at the village to avoid accusation.
Isaka[]
Iwano and Isaka never seen interacts with each other but it can be assumed that they're on good terms.
Moriya[]
Iwano and Moriya never seen interacts with each other but it can be assumed that they're on good terms.
Kono[]
Iwano and Kono never seen interacts with each other but it can be assumed that they're on good terms.
