Kenji Edogawa is a famous detective novelist whom Ryuji also knew and one of the residents in Majin Village.

He has an outdoors type with glasses and a beard, but he speaks rather harshly. He owns a hunting rifle, which makes him wilder than usual when hunting. It is unknown why he lives in the narrow mountains of Izumo. He doesn't seem to dislike people, and is cooperating with the excavation work, it's unclear if he's interested in the archaeology of Majin Village. He has an arrogant and selfish side, and when Kidaichi demonstrates a trick, he pushes people away and puts his face into the air hole to breathe first, but thanks to that, the criminal uses a wire device to catch birds. His reasoning power is also not good enough, as shown when he thought that there's no possible way to know who scared Satsuki. There is no such scene in the anime version, and he answers Kindaichi's question by putting his face in the air hole, but at that time he still gets a wire hooked around his neck.
